Powering up

Generating more energy from renewable sources like wind or sun, so we produce less carbon, is critical to a transition away from fossil fuels.

We need to support projects and activities that enable us to generate our own supply of energy. We are doing this by:

  • Bringing people together to share advice about domestic renewable technologies so that people find the right support and advice to make the best choices.

  • Exploring how all our public buildings can get off oil starting with the Harting Community Hall. In 2024 we plan to increase the amount of solar on the south facing roof, install a battery and air source heat pump providing an income to help underwrite the financial stability of the community hall going forward.

  • Supporting landowners and farmers to explore the feasibility of a small to large scale solar farm.

  • Advocating with the South Downs National Park regarding planning policy that enable more renewable energy projects to proceed particularly when they are community energy projects.

We are also in conversations with both churches about the steps they can take both to power down but maybe to power up. The school also might benefit from an increased number of solar panels on its roof to help with their energy needs and costs.

We are delighted about the Harting Stores having their panels up and to know what an impact that they are already having.
